Ну в сторону уменьшения количества прерываний в секунду крутить, понятное дело.

Так меньшее количество пакетов в секунду я уже не могу. У меня и так уже почти максимальная длина фрейма, а всякие Jumbo я применять не хочу.

Кстати, Jumbo реально позволяет расслабиться и почти ничего не настраивать.

Попробуйте посмотреть, сколько генерируется прерываний в секунду (на глаз или скриптом):

cat /proc/interrupts

В выводе нужно найти прерывания от карты - во время приема их число должно быстро расти. Бывают скрипты, которые парсят вывод и показывают число прерываний.

Если проблема в большом числе прерываний - то их число нужно уменьшить, гуглить interrupt coalescing (а также ethtool -c ethX). 

 

Кроме стандартных средств бывает тяжелая артиллерия - прием в user space специальными картами со специальными драйверами (Solarflare OpenOnload и др). В этом случае можно обойтись вообще без прерываний, но этот способ дорог, неудобен, и на сегодня для захвата 10Гбит потоков точно не нужен. Вот 100Гбит+, наверное, да, может быть довольно трудно без этого обойтись.

 

Насчет бродкаста - в практических применениях удобнее слать multicast поток UDP кадров. В этом случае бродкаст не будет забивать коммутаторы, если такие позднее появятся. Со стороны приемного софта главное неудобство - придется подписаться на мультикаст поток, иначе ядро будет его выбрасывать. UDP - потому что его легче принимать в user space безо всяких tcpdump или raw sockets.

Со стороны ПЛИС неудобств нет - например, IGMP реализовывать не нужно, можно просто всегда слать пакеты, а там уже коммутатор или сервер разберется, нужны они кому-нибудь или нет.

Эмм... эмм.... даже не знаю как ответить. Но это из разных степей. Broadcast - про destination address, а UDP - протокол 4го, транспортного уровня.

Jumbo frame должно тогда передающее ус-во отсылать пакеты соотв. большего размера. Если передающее ус-во не шлет в jumbo кадрах, то и смысла в этом никого.

Буфер именно ядра в /proc/sys/net/core/[wr]mem_max обязательно увеличивайте (через sysctl, как сказали, а можно напрямую в этот файл писать). Это именно буфер, который разрешено приложению захватить на прием (rmem) или отправку (wmem) пакетов на уровне ядра. Поэтому какой бы ни был буфер у tcpdump'а, если буфер ядра маленький - он просто не будет успевать копировать оттуда в userspace.

Само собой. Но в данном случае передающее устройство - ПЛИС под полным управлением ТС, так что на первый взгляд ничто не мешает собирать данные в Jumbo пакеты.

У меня сейчас ядро так и делает - все выбрасывает. И tcpdump принимает только в promiscuous mode. Я собираюсь что-то насчет этого дела в будущем предпринять, так как да, с точки зрения сетевой инфраструктуры совсем неудобно получается. Но на текущую ситуацию с потерей пакетов это не должно влиять, так?

Да, но на второй взгляд есть, что мешает - я пытаюсь хоть как-то, но придерживаться определенного стандарта - в данном случае это протокол МЭК 61850-9-2 Sampled Values. Конечно от него у меня сейчас мало что осталось, но по крайней мере основным вещам из него я пытаюсь следовать. И Jumbo там не предусмотрен, насколько я знаю.

Ну так поделитесь хоть этой фигней, хоть какая зацепка будет.  А также как  советовали выше статистикой по сетвой ethtool -S  nic_name  до запуска теста и после.

Итак машина: двухпроцессорная рабочая станция.

RAM диск на 32Гб создан таким скриптом:

Тест 1:  FPGA шлет 1476 байт каждые 300*6.4нс(клок)=1,920нс. То есть общий трафик: 520 833 пакета в секунду, 768 750 000 байт/с.

В каждом пакете в payload есть поле smpCnt - это 16-битный счетчик, увеличивающийся на единицу в каждом посланном пакете. Он переполняется.

Анализ в Wireshark произвольно выбранного файла из середины:

1340486 пакетов принято за 2.573788 с. То есть среднее количество пакетов в секунду - 520 822.

Анализ по smpCnt:

Первый принятый пакет имеет smpCnt 10881. По формуле mod(10881+1340486, 2^16) последний пакет должен иметь smpCnt 40647. Wireshark показывает 40643

То есть можно считать, что были захвачены все пакеты +- 4 шт, но это погрешность на запись в конкретный файл и компенсируется в следующем.

Хотя если сложить количество пакетов во всех файлах суммарно и посчитать по формуле, то набегает разница в 14 пакетов и я знаю, что это на грани.

Теперь FPGA шлет пакеты каждые 260 * 6,4нс = 1664 нс, что составляет 600 961 пакета в секунду. Трафик в этом случае 887 019 231 байт/с

При этом Wireshark показывает 600 957 пакетов в секунду. Проверка по smpCnt показывает разницу в 15 пакетов опять же.

Странно. Может это потому, что я ничего не делаю параллельно захвату, а сам захват ограничен по времени? Может из-за того, что -v убрал?

Попробую подержать подольше.

Я бы предложил всё-таки поставить Ubuntu Server. Всё-таки все оптимизации ядра в десктопном убунту явно не в пользу таких скоростей сети. Не то, чтобы 100% в этом дело было.. но почему бы не исключить. Можно даже лайв загрузить я думаю.

Ах да - и добавьте фильтр tcpdump. Вы так захватываете все пакеты. Даже если у вас плис напрямую к ПК подключен, как минимум сам ПК и его сетевые службы генерируют немного своих пакетов, которые так тоже захватываются - ARPы, всякие Discovery и прочее. Например так:

tcpdump -s 0 -c 10000000 -B 2000000 -C 2000 -i ens4f0 -w /home/ubuntu/tfr/capture.pcap ether src <МАК ПЛИСины>

А это не сделает хуже? У меня без трафика от ПЛИС всего пара пакетов в секунду от/к свичу гуляет. А фильтр может же нагрузку на процессор увеличить?

Фильтр может... но т.к. фильтр подгружается в ядро (там сложный механизм аж с почти виртуальной машиной), а tcpdump однопоточен и работает на 1ом ядре только, думаю фильтр может и не помешать. Зато точные цифры пакетов именно от ПЛИС увидите. Вы же 15 пакетов разницу учитываете - а примерно столько "паразитного" трафика и будет. В любом случае там вроде что-то подгружается в ядро, чтобы pcap получал пакеты от интерфейса. Поэтому стоит попробовать - может и не будет накладных расходов даже.

Ну или можно тот же фильтр в Wireshark при просмотре уже наложить и посмотреть количество пакетов после фильтра.

Вот теперь стресс-тест 3: ПЛИС шлет пакет каждые 1408 нс, что равно 710 227 пакетам/с. Трафик: 1 048 295 455 байт/с.

Для того, чтобы память не переполнилась, сделал скрипт, который стирает старый файл, если общий размер папки превышает 24Гб

Захватывал командой

tcpdump -s 0 -B 2000000 -C 2000 -i ens4f0 -w /home/ubuntu/tfr/capture.pcap ether src 74D435155BC1

в течении минуты где-то.

Вот тут Wireshark начал показывать потерянные пакеты. Судя по файлу скорость захвата была в районе 653 750 пакетов/с, что намного ниже ожидаемой.

Также smpCnt в конце файла отличается на десятки тысяч от ожидаемого.

Конкретно сказать, сколько пакетов было потеряно, трудновато. Надо мутить какой-то анализатор для Wireshark. Но можно начинать шаманить с настройками.

710227*1500 = 1 065 340 500. Вы считаете полный пакет? Или только payload?

А если всё-таки попробовать 2ой сценарий теста, но с фильтром pcap? Чтобы проверить вносит ли фильтр нагрузку.

 

Ну и про ОС и твики сетевого стека ядра тема остается в силе.
